Ann Arbor Rolling Sculpture Car Show

July 10th, 2008

So a while has past since I  have written a post or even attended a car show (new job). Tomorrow Ann Arbor will host which was once a great car show. I say once a great show due to the fact that it has outgrown its venue. The first time I went, many years back, we strolled in late in a fine 39 Ford. Paid at the gate, parked and had a  good time. The last three years it was plagued with the same problems as the Woodward Dream Cruise (one year it did rain, so it was not so bad). Too many cars trying to pack into a single area. On top of being packed into a limited area, you are also forced to enter from only one entrance. Last year, while waiting in line to enter, the Cougar started to suffer from vapor lock and when we finally did park, it stalled out right when I shifted in to park. Call me a lazy cruiser, but I prefer to wander on in at my own leisure and be able to split when I am ready. Yet, every year Rolling Sculpture, Woodward Dream cruise and other shows just like them seem to keep growing. I am glad they keep growing, but I prefer to keep it casual and cool, and that’s what really grinds my gears.

MVVC’s 21st Annual Vintage Volkswagen Festival

June 10th, 2008

The air was hot and sticky at the all aired cooled Vintage Volkswagen Festival hosted by the Michigan Vintage Volkswagen Club. Many participants came out to show their rides and browse the numerous swap vendors. A line of bugs came out and one by one and the MC asked the audience what year is it? A discusiion of further suttle details rounded out each car in line. I am not super informed on VW’s and learned a lot while the cars were paraded. It was cool to see all the micro bus campers lined up, Carmen Ghia’s and Porsche 914 at the show. One beetle was all decked out with U of M gear. The beer bus was neat, to bad they were not selling some cold ones.

Custom VW bug
Slammed Beetle
type 3 station wagon
Super clean and restored Beetle
Go Blue bug
Porsche 914
VW Beer Bus
V Dub Hot Rod

Thanks MVVC for putting on such a great show.
